On May 15th, 2017, USAID Mission Director James Hope visited the Women in Online Work (WoW) training program in Gjilan where 85 young women are currently completing training to prepare them for online work. The program has had a great start with the women already gaining knowledge on market demand through online platforms. The WoW women showed the Mission Director Hope restaurant and café menus they prepared during the training sessions since starting the program two weeks ago.
The WoW training program consists of a two-month intensive in-class and home-based training on soft skills/employability, front-end web development, graphic design and remedial English, followed by a mentorship program held for a duration of three months.
EMPOWER Private sector in partnership with SIDA, AKT-LS and the Municipality of Gjilan is supporting this third phase of the WoW training program which aims to mobilize and skill 135 women from Gjilan and Pristina to generate incomes through online work. Over 1600 women applied for the program in the two cities.
