On February 1st 2018, USAID Mission Director James Hope visited Intertex company, a leather and textile company established in 2015, in Gjakova. The company produces work uniforms, covers for cars, and leather bags, and currently has 237 employees.
During the visit the Board Chairman Valon Lluka gave a tour around the production facility explaining the work processes and talked about company’s plans for the future. Intertex exports 95% of its products to international brands such as Volkswagen, Volvo, The Bridge, and Guess.
Since 2015, EMPOWER Private Sector in partnership with Sida – Styrelsen för Internationellt Utvecklingssamarbetesigned supported the participation of the company representatives in different fairs which resulted in several contracts, one of them generating 80 new jobs. Most recently USAID EMPOWER Private Sector placed a short-term technical advisor with Intertex for 60 days to advise the company on workers compensation and production efficiency and to train the head of production on improved production management.
