More and more Kosovo companies are exporting to foreign markets thanks to the support provided by USAID’s EMPOWER Private Sector project. Recently, DONI wood-processing company from Mitrovica signed a significant new contract to export 2100 kitchens to the Democratic Republic of Congo. For the next three years, DONI’s kitchens are going to be sent and installed at a new community that is being built in Africa’s most central country.
However, this isn’t DONI’s only large export contract. The company has successfully completed export agreements with companies and institutions in Norway, Germany, Albania, and Macedonia. To keep up with the increased demand, DONI is currently building a new production facility and plans to increase its employee numbers considerably.
All these new contracts came after USAID’s EMPOWER Private Sector in partnership with Sida – Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency supported DONI with a grant in 2016 to purchase a CNC machine. The new equipment enabled the company to increase production capacity and product quality, and to create 20 new jobs so far.
“The grant received by USAID’s EMPOWER Private Sector project helped us to increase the quantity and quality of our products and made it possible for us to export our products to other countries.” – said Liridon Beqiri, owner of DONI standing in front of one of the kitchens produced by his company.
