September 2018 – The third edition of the Green Festival will come this year bigger and greener than ever before. Over 40 Kosovar companies will present their products and services to promote a more sustainable environment in the future. The Green Festival will provide a networking platform for green businesses, government agencies, donors and all relevant green energy stakeholders for sharing environmentally-friendly practices that correspond to global goals for a more ecological environment. The 3rd edition of the Green Festival will be held at the 1 Tetori sports Hall in Prishtina, on 19 – 21 September 2018.
The main goal of the festival is to promote green businesses of Kosovo and raise awareness and interest in recycling, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Given that the “green” sector is still under development in Kosovo, this sector presents considerable opportunities for economic growth and creation of new jobs. Last year 23 participating companies generated over 1.3 million Euros in sales during the three days of the event. Likewise, 13 out of 25 speakers in the last year’s edition were from renowned international renewable energy organizations, such as Solar Power, IRENA, DNVGL and AEG.
The overwhelming participation and interest on the festival in the previous editions shows that Kosovars appreciate the benefits of renewable energy and energy efficiency and are ready to apply modern technologies of this field to greater extent in their homes and businesses. It is expected that the 3rd edition of the Green Festival will create more sales contracts with special focus on exports. Also, the fair will have a greater variety of participating businesses as well as parallel activities that will be attractive for all ages.
The 3rd edition of the Green Festival will have a new look and concept of fair organization. A significant number of energy experts will participate in forums to share their experiences with the public and talk about the latest and future trends of the recycling industry, solar energy, and energy efficiency, highlighting the importance of green energy.
The 3rd edition of the Green Festival is organized by the USAID EMPOWER Private Sector in partnership with the Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (Sida) and the Kosovo Manufacturers Club (KMC), supported by GIZ, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, ProCredit Bank, TEB, and GEFF.
Since July 2014, the USAID’s Five Year EMPOWER Private Sector Project, which is also funded by the Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, has been engaged in giving incentives for job creation in a large scale, boosting the competitive ability of Kosovar companies in sectors that are ready to develop clothing, wood processing, ICT, renewable energy, tourism and metal processing. To date, this project has created over 3200 new jobs across Kosovo, with plans to create a total of 5,000 new jobs by July 2019.
