On December 3rd, 2018, 100 youth from Gjilan and Viti were awarded certificates for the completion of business skills training at ceremonies at the two municipalities. The training was part of EMPOWER Private Sector’s Self-Employment Training Program.
The USAID Economic Growth Office Director Brian Martalus spoke at the ceremonies, joined by the Mayor of Gjilan Lutfi Haziri and Mayor of Viti Sokol Haliti. He highlighted USAID’s continued support to youth employment, noting that ‘‘Starting and running a business is not easy, a lot of businesses fail, but you must keep trying until you succeed. USAID is here to help you to succeed now and, in the future, so you contribute to your families, and your community.”
The Self-Employment Training Program, which is implemented by Help Kosovo, aims to foster employability, entrepreneurship and expand job opportunities for youth from Gjilan, Viti, Kacanik, and Hani i Elezit. The program delivered business skills training to 200 youth in these municipalities. A similar certificate award ceremony was held on November 23rd, 2018 for the 100 trainees who completed the business skills training in Kacanik and Hani i Elezit.
In the next phase of the program, the best 32 business proposals presented by the trainees will receive small grants to start their own businesses. The Self-Employment Training Program is financed by the USAID Empower Private Sector project in partnership with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and partner municipalities. The business training was delivered by Business Support Centre Kosovo (BSCK).
