During February 13th – 16th 2019, EMPOWER Private Sector beneficiary Peppermint International attended the world’s leading trade fair for organic food BIOFACH, in Nuremberg, Germany. The company, which was established in 2012 in Leposavic, produces essential oils from a wide variety of wild-growing medicinal and aromatic plants.
At the fair, Peppermint International was successful in making contacts and more importantly, reaching new markets. It signed a lucrative contract with a Swiss company to export their organic products to Switzerland. In addition, it made over 15 serious contacts and agreements to provide product samples to companies from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and China.
The company’s participation at the fair was supported the USAID EMPOWER Private Sector project in partnership with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). In 2016, the project also supported Peppermint International with a grant to purchase equipment for drying and storing medicinal and aromatic plants for the production of essential oils. The grant support enabled the company to produce export-quality products and has create 53 new jobs.
